The qirāʾa of Abu Jaafar is among the oldest Medinan recitations and is distinguished by phonetic features in hamza, madd extensions, and idgham. It is one of the three additional recitations in the set of the Ten.
Abu Jaafar's qirāʾa maintains an academic presence in qirāʾat centres in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Morocco, as well as in institutions specialising in the Ten Recitations.
